The Centre for Critical Research on Race and Identity (ccrri), the School of Development Studies (SDS), and the History and African Studies seminar are launching and jointly hosting an Occasional Critical Studies seminar.

The objective of the seminar is, inter alia, to build inter-disciplinary collaboration across the University, and to stimulate the intellectual environment on the campus.

Imagine Durban Workshops for FBOs, NGOs and CBOs Print

The Imagine Durban project will be holding four regional workshops (north, south, west & central) for all Faith Based Organisations, Non-Governmental Organisations and Community Based Organisations that operate within the eThekwini region.   

The purpose of these workshops will be to:-

  1. Share the Imagine Durban Plan that represents a vision for a better Durban that government, civil society organizations, faith based groups, tertiary institutions, business organizations and ordinary folk have identified through the Imagine Durban consultation process
  2. Hear about the outreach projects that your organization is involved in
  3. Develop a partnership with you organization for the future
  4. Facilitate networking between FBOs, NGOs and CBOs

The School of Development Studies invites you to a seminar by Clive Coetzee titled:  The economics of South African cities.
As of this year, SDS seminars will be brown bag seminars, so feel free to bring along your lunch. The paper can be downloaded and the presentation and discussion will proceed on the assumption that people who attend the seminar have read the paper.

Clive Coetzee is Manager of Inter-governmental Relations and Economist in the Treasury, Provincial Government of KwaZulu-Natal. He worked previously in the Department of Economics, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg. He has, inter-alia, worked on developing economic models of the economy of KwaZulu-Natal.
 
Growth of Soya Bean Project Print

The eThekwini Municipality is proud to announce that it's bid to host the 2013 World Soya Conference was successful, making Durban the first city to host such an event in the African continent.

In November 2008 the eThekwini Municipality together with the KZN Department of Agriculture  launched  a Soya Bean Project with the aim to enhance food security, engage small farmers and introduce soya farming to the KZN region.  The project also aims to promote the consumption of the bean because of its nutritional value, and ensure that there is at least 100 ha of soya bean planted in KZN over the next three years.

Pecha Kucha Print

Pecha Kucha is a series of powerpoint presentations focussed on art, design and architecture.  It is unique in that each speaker has 20 slides and can only show them for 20 seconds each so each presentation only lasts 6 minutess.  It is really stimulating with lots of variety.  

Carol Brown will be presenting some of the stadium artworks and other Durban speakers will be showing their projects. There is a R10 donation requested per person at the door and a cash bar.  It will be on Thursday 28th Jan at 6.30 for 7 at the Durban Art Gallery.
