Vibe fm community radio is a non profit community project that was founded in Kwa Mashu in 1998 by group of young members of the community who called themselves Imbumba Youth Organisation.  They had a dream of running a community radio station and their dream became a reality in 2002 when the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) granted a special licence to Imbumba Youth Organisation to broadcast for a period of 30 days.  Members of the organisation decided to use Vibe fm as the trade name for the community radio station.  After it first 30 day licence in 2002 Vibe fm received a number of further licences to broadcast for 30 days until 2004.

In 2005 Vibe fm applied for a four year licence which was granted to the station in 2006.  After years of hard work the station started its first broadcast since receiving the four year licence in March 2009.  The radio station operates as Vibe fm and its broadcast on frequency number 94.70 in Durban and surrounding areas.  The station is situated in what was once a dusty township of Kwa Mashu and since it first broadcast, it is growing very fast.  For more information visit www.vibefmcr.co.za
