Durban gallery mixes art with educationBank Gallery exhibits top South Africa and international artists in Durban, which is a refreshing change for a city that has been left off the national art circuit for way to long. Equally impressive is their education program, which runs concurrently with each exhibition.

The aims of Bank Gallery’s education programme are:

  • to add depth to the experience of visitors to the gallery;
  • to encourage younger and new audiences to encounter galleries, artworks and ideas in an intriguing and accessible way;
  • to support schools by offering a way of broadening their teaching of art, media and culture.

Each exhibition is accompanied by a programme of education sessions, tailored to the needs of visiting groups. These include nursery and pre-school children, primary and secondary level schoolchildren, tertiary-level students and the ordinary, interested public like you and me.

  • Has anyone gone on an educational visit at Bank Gallery?
  • What do people think of the state of arts education in South Africa and particularly Durban?
  • Should galleries be doing more?
