Athletics is one of South Africa's most loved sport and is included in almost every school's extra-curriculum activities.  KwaMashu as a township has it own athletics club that operates as a non-profit organisation.  The Kwa Mashu Athletics Club has participated in a number of races and has managed to bring back home medals.  In 2009 the club participated in all the races that are in the South African Athletics fixture, including the most famous Annual Comrades Marathon in which thirty of it members finished with medals.

It is the wish of the board of directors of the KwaMashu Athletics Club to work towards making this township a progressive one, with less criminal activities, by getting the youth to become members of the club.  In January 2010 the  club was blessed with a sponsorship of 60 pair of shoes donated by Regent Harriers which is an organisation that assists athletic clubs from a disadvantaged background with kits and materials that could help them towards acheiving their dreams of becoming professional athletes.
